Accessibility

An accessible Website strives to facilitate its use for all users and, especially, for people who must use assistive technology (Braille display) or software (screen-to-speech software) to be able to interpret the content.

This Website currently has barriers to accessibility that will be corrected during its overhaul scheduled for the fall of 2012.

All current and future site content will progressively be brought into compliance with the new accessibility standards This link will redirect you to an external Website (new window). adopted by the Quebec Treasury Board on May 10, 2011.

If you are having difficulty accessing some content of the site or require further information about the steps we have undertaken to meet accessibility standards, please feel free to contact us:

Work accomplished to date

Corrections to the homepage HTML code, as well as the HTML code for the site map and all the main pages for the first three navigation levels. Here are some of the corrections that have been made:

  • Addition of the icon  Icône indiquant qu'un lien mène vers un site externe dans une nouvelle fenêtre. next to any links that open in a new window Addition of relevant alternative texts to images when needed
  • Addition of a distinctive title to each page
  • Use of section headings
  • Use of appropriate web beacons where several items form a list
  • Use of appropriate web beacons within a table containing data
  • Adjusting the contrast for certain texts and their background
  • Use of appropriate web beacons to specify the meaning of abbreviations used

Work in progress

We are deploying the necessary efforts in order to:

  1. Modify the SharePoint 2010 software in order to provide accessible elements that comply with standards, such as:
  • Navigation menus
  • Adjustable font size

These changes will also make it possible to:

  • Display metadata
  • Display the breadcrumb trail within appropriate web beacons
  • Eliminate use of tables in layout
  • Properly label the main logo image
  • Indicate the main language in its code
  • Adjust website search forms
  1. Improve the way in which information is presented by rewording some content in a less obscure and therefore more readily accessible and understandable language.

Tools used to verify accessibility

The homepage HTML codes, as well as the HTML code for the site map and all the main pages for the first three navigation levels have been verified by the W3C HTML markup validator.

We also use the following tools to facilitate our task:

  • NVDA version 2012.1
  • Jaws 12
